Advertising My House For Sale - Can I ask my Realtor to include me in marketing decisions?

Kate, if I wanted to sell my house, and I hired a Realtor to take care of that process for me, can I request that he or she use certain techniques when advertising my house?



For example, I know there are many magazines and websites where Real Estate companies advertise their listings, as well as infomercial type TV shows and webcasts with video tours of homes they have for sale.

Can I request that they put my home in certain media? I understand they are professionals, and part of their job is to decide the right way to successfully sell a home. If I wanted to put my listing in more places than they originally suggest, is there a way to add the price or a portion of the price of the extra advertising cost into the Realtor's commission?

Cory, you have creative marketing ideas. When you sit down to interview prospective real estate agents, this would be the perfect time to discuss your ideas. Here are some options to consider. You have a few options. You can pay for services yourself, negotiate splitting them with your agent or increase the price of your home to add the cost into the commission.
